The NEVERMORE project as part of the Kick-off Meeting of the MountResilience project

On 20 September 2023, the NEVERMORE project was presented on the occasion of the Kick-off Meeting of the Horizon Europe MountResilience project, in Ponte di Legno (Brescia), Italy. The project coordinator Alessia Torre, from the Fondazione Bruno Kessler, was invited to participate in the event and presented the NEVERMORE project with a particular attention to the Trentino case study.

The MountResilience project is funded by Horizon Mission CLIMA and aims to empower European regions and communities situated in mountainous areas. Its primary objective is to strengthen their ability to adapt to climate change and to transition toward a society that is resilient to climate challenges, with conceptualizing multidimensional and replicable climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions.

During the Kick-off meeting, several interesting themes came out, mirroring those addressed in NEVERMORE, specifically focusing on climate change adaptation and resilience. Moreover, both projects share a common commitment to actively engaging with society and policymakers.
A significant point of intersection was identified with the Trentino case study, one of the 5 case studies of the NEVERMORE project, representing the mountain region. The intricacies of the Trentino case study, representing the mountain region within the NEVERMORE project’s scope, align closely with the core mission of MountResilience.

The Trentino case study stands out due to its diverse morphologies, encompassing varying climatic and environmental conditions, ranging from Alpine climates in the mountain valleys to sub-Mediterranean climates.

MountResilience indeed stands out as an ambitious and intriguing project. We extend our gratitude to UNIMONT – University of Milan for the invitation to present NEVERMORE. Recognizing the shared objectives and focal points of both projects, there exists a wealth of potential synergies waiting to be uncovered between MountResilience and NEVERMORE.

We are enthusiastic for this collaboration and eagerly anticipate exploring various avenues for joint activities in the future. This joint effort holds the promise of combining the strengths and expertise of both projects, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges posed by climate change, not only in mountainous regions.
