Bruno Kessler Foundation, Trento, Italy. FBK is the top Research Institute in Italy, ranked at the 1st place for scientific excellence within 3 different subject areas and for the economic and social impact according to the latest quality of research ANVUR evaluation. With its 3,500 square meters of laboratories and scientific infrastructures and a community of over 400 researchers, 140 doctoral students, 200 visiting fellows and thesis students, 700 affiliates and accredited students combined, Fondazione Bruno Kessler acts as a scientific and technological hub, its premises and platforms hosting a lively ecosystem of co-located ventures, spin-offs, projects and training opportunities.
The result of more than half a century of history, through 11 centres dedicated to technology and innovation and to the humanities and social sciences, FBK aims to achieve excellent results in the scientific and technological field with particular regard to interdisciplinary approaches and the application dimension. This is due to the constant focus on collaborations and exchange activities with public administration and institutions, small, medium-sized and multinational companies, European and international institutions, which broaden the capacity for innovation and involve the local community and the local economy in the circulation of knowledge and technologies.
Fundación CARTIF is a leading Spanish Applied Research Centre for R&D and technology transfer activities. CARTIF is legally established as a Foundation (private non-profit research centre), and its main goals are to identify technology needs and develop R&D-based knowledge, to support technological innovation in industry, mainly among SMEs and to disseminate R&D and innovation results. Nowadays, CARTIF employs 185 people, mainly engineers, scientists, and senior researchers working in three technical divisions: Agrifood & processes, Energy and Digital and industrial systems. CARTIF is participating in 144 ongoing projects and has a huge experience in HE and H2020 projects: 161, 36 as coordinator.
Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia (INFO) is the Regional Development Agency in Murcia. With more than 30 years of experience, INFO is a well-known regional actor and the reference agency for the enterprises and business sector in the Region of Murcia when dealing with economic development, internationalisation, investments, R+D+I and European Union programmes. Furthermore, INFO is the Coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors in the Murcia region since 2013, with 45 municipalities adhering. INFO has developed a methodology to elaborate municipalities’ Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP)in the LIFE ADAPTATE framework. INFO will explore the extension of such a methodology with a number of municipalities in the Murcia region to produce some 15-20 new SECAPs, as part of the Case Study of NEVERMORE project.
Tulcea County Prefecture's Office is a public institution and represents the Romanian Government on a territorial level. The Prefecture is the representative authority on a local level for foreign diplomatic missions and presides over Emergency Situation Committee intervention in case of disasters. The Office also coordinates local institutions on all aspects of public life: internal affairs, emergency situations, public health care, education, labour market, social assistance, environmental protection, etc., in terms of strategies and policies. Tulcea County is home to one of the most beautiful and interesting natural areas, the Danube Delta, a Biosphere Reserve and part of the UNESCO international network where all authorities try to balance keen environmental protection and economic development.
The Autonomous Province of Trento (PAT) is a public authority in the mountain region Trentino. By virtue of a special Statute, PAT government competencies are wider than those of other Italian regions: PAT enjoys a wide legislative, administrative, and financial autonomy in all the most important fields of public government, such as environment, tourism, sport, energy, industry and SMEs, agriculture and forests, research and innovation, transportation, education. PAT is responsible for planning, programming, and implementing the related policies, which aim to preserve its mountain territory and enhance its inhabitants’ and guests’ quality of life.
The Euro‑Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is a non-profit research institution. Its mission is to investigate and model the climate system and its interactions with the society to provide reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific information and results, which will in turn stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate. CMCC research activities are distributed among eleven research divisions that share different knowledge and skills in the field of climate science, with the aim to provide full analyses of climate impacts on various systems such as terrestrial ecosystems, coasts, water resources, health, and economics. CMCC also supports policymakers in assessing costs of climate change, as well as to define mitigation and adaptation policies.
ZSI is short for the “Centre for Social Innovation” and represents an independent social science research institute located in Vienna, Austria. Since 1990, ZSI researches the social embedding and impact of all types of innovations and contributes to the design and diffusion of socially accepted and sustainable innovations to meet societal challenges. As an independent and globally acting scientific institution, we engage in the development of theories, methodologies, instruments, and measures as well as in the dissemination of a systemically conceptualised broad innovation approach.
The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is one of the leading research institutions addressing relevant questions in the fields of global change, climate impact, and sustainable development. Natural and social scientists work closely together to generate interdisciplinary insights that provide a sound basis for decision-making for society, businesses, and politics. PIK is a member of the Leibniz Association.
IVL, the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, is Sweden's leading organisation for applied environmental and sustainability research. North Sweden Energy Agency (Energikontor Norr) is an independent expertise resource and a regional cooperation institution without profit interest. The agency is owned by the 14 municipalities in Norrbotten, together with Norrbotten County Council. Its role is to increase the share of renewable energy and to get companies and public organisations to save energy and natural resources by initiating, coordinating and managing projects – from regional level up to EU level working with intelligence and analysis working on orders from our owners as well as The Swedish Energy Agency initiating, coordinating and operating various networks to gather expertise and create exchanges between actors.
ALDA, the European Association for Local Democracy, is a global alliance of local and regional authorities and civil society actors working together with a participative approach for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities. To promote good governance and citizen participation at the local level in the whole of Europe and beyond, ALDA leads a wide range of actions supporting stakeholders in achieving their goals in the fields of European integration, decentralisation, human rights, social inclusion, sustainable development, civic initiatives and much more. Its offices are based in Strasbourg (FR), Brussels (BE), Vicenza (IT), Skopje (MK), Chisinau (MD) and Tunis (TN). Today, ALDA is a key stakeholder in the field of local democracy, active citizenship, good governance, EU integration, human rights, and cooperation between local authorities and civil society. Most of its work is based on multilateral decentralized cooperation. The Association has a network of 350 members, including local and regional authorities and civil society associations from more than 45 different countries.

Software Imagination & Vision (SIMAVI) is a software company, a partial takeover from SIVECO Romania – a large software company established in 1992. SIMAVI has inherited all the assets related to the software development activities, the related experience in the field, the implementation teams, the certificates and the authorizations held by SIVECO Romania. SIMAVI continues the outstanding reputation of SIVECO in international markets by developing successful projects together with several international companies. Moreover, SIMAVI has significant experience and an exceptional track record in R&D&I projects, being involved as a technological provider and coordinator in many European and National research projects.
The National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSRD) was founded in July 1961 as a Research Centre for Nuclear Research. Today, NCSRD is Greece’s largest multidisciplinary research centre, with approximately 180 researchers in tenured and tenure-track positions and over 500 research personnel working in projects funded mainly by grants from state funds, the European Union, and private industries. In the NEVERMORE project, NCSRD participates with the Environmental Research Laboratory (EREL) and, specifically, the Climate Research group. EREL is well-established in climate, environmental, and energy research, with the primary aim of contributing to different aspects of environmental protection and sustainable development priorities through diverse modelling and experimental activities.
Sitia Municipality is located in Eastern Crete (Greece). Its area has an extension of 633.2km2 and a population of 20268 inhabitants (as of 2021). It hosts the Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark, with more than 100 unique geotopes, tectonic structures, and fossils (marine and mammals). Its economy focuses mainly on agricultural activities, PDO olive oil, wine, and tourism (e.g., hikers and surfers). Within town limits, there is an airport and a port for commercial and passenger use with daily connections to the Aegean islands. Sitia is an “energy producer junction”, i.e., there, high wind and solar potential are combined with a thermal power plant on the south coast. It is Europe's most “extreme climate hotspot”, mainly due to thermal drought conditions. It has high winds in the eastern part, and almost 300 sunshine days/year, with few rain events.
The University of Valladolid (UVa) is an important centre of higher education in Spain. It comprises nearly 25,000 students and an academic staff of more than 2,500 professors and lecturers. The UVa promotes the transfer of research results and manages around 850 research projects financed through competitive public R+D+I calls. The Researching Group of Energy, Economy, and System Dynamics (GEEDS) at UVa consists of an interdisciplinary team of professors and researchers experienced in the study of complex relationships between sustainability, well-being, and development. GEEDS will participate in NEVERMORE by improving the modelling of climate change impacts on the WILIAM model.
